Danielle Peers - Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns is probably the most famous basketball player to come out of Canada, but officially he's not the best.
Danielle Peers
That title belongs to Danielle Peers, who last July was named Basketball Canada's outstanding athlete of the year of 2006-'07.

She was also recognized as the MVP of the 2006 women's wheelchair world championship in Antwerp, where she sparked Canada to victory by leading the tournament in points and rebounds.

To help prepare for the event, Peers spent a year playing semi-professional men's basketball in France. naturally, she picked up yet another best player award.

Currently, Peers serves a national ambassador for Muscular Dystrophy canada, sharing with people how the progressive condition is changing her life. Ten years ago, she was a star player of the upright game; now she walks with crutches or uses a wheelchair.

The U of A is her training and academic home. She is pursing a postgraduate degree in physical education.
